Daniel James
Zeuske
Dec 6, 1966 — Oct 4, 2019
Daniel James Zeuske, age 52, of Hartland, passed away surrounded by his wife and loved ones on Friday, October 4th, 2019 after being challenged with prostate cancer for nearly seven years. Dan joins his parents Clyde and Florence (Kriesel) Zeuske in Heaven, as well as siblings Dwight Zeuske and Dawn Zeuske. Dan is survived by his beloved wife of 28 years Karen (Kowal) Zeuske and sons Benjamin (20), Nicholas (17) and Joseph (13), who were his world. Dan is survived by siblings Diane Bauman (the late John), Douglas (Kathy) Zeuske, Debra (Bruce) Hoeft, and many cousins, nieces, nephews and their families.
Dan graduated as valedictorian of his class at Gresham High School in 1985. He received a degree in mathematics and secondary education from Cardinal Stritch College in 1990 and went on to become Systems Administrator with Thomson Reuters, working for the company for almost 30 years. Dan married Karen, his college sweetheart, in 1991. Their marriage grew stronger through life's challenges and joys. They raised three sons together, of whom Dan was immensely proud. In fact, Dan described himself as an "average guy who learned what really matters in life from his special needs kid - and his two older brothers," referencing his youngest son Joe, and older brothers Nick and Ben.
Dan was an avid flower gardener and received many compliments from neighbors on the flourishing landscape surrounding his home. He also enjoyed bird watching from his front window, and meticulously detailing model airplanes and cars. Dan loved action and sci-fi movies and often expressed himself in well-timed movie quotes. He possessed a sarcastic, witty sense of humor that he passed onto his sons, and an endearingly wry smile to match. Dan was a quiet, kind, loving, respectful man who was dedicated to his family. His biggest love was sharing baseball with his sons, whether attending Brewer games with them or supporting their playing of the game. After his cancer diagnosis, Dan became a coach for the boys' teams. It was so important to him that he asked his doctor to plan his cancer treatments around baseball season, so he could have his strength to devote to this meaningful time with his sons. He was able to coach for a few summers, and his doctor often shares this story with other patients.
Dan and his family are members of St. Matthew's Lutheran Church in Wauwatosa. Dan's faith deepened over the time that he faced severe health challenges and a terminal diagnosis. In 2016 he described his experiences, inner journey, and faith in a talk entitled " Being Mortal ," facilitated by the church. Memorial services will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Friday, October 11, 2019, at St. Matthew's Evangelical Lutheran Church, 1615 Wauwatosa Avenue, Wauwatosa, Wisconsin. Visitation will begin at 1:00 p.m., prior to the service. For online condolences, please visit brettfuneralhome.com .
