Obituary

James Edward Bremer (Jeb) passed away on the evening of November 7th, 2024 at home. He was the faithful husband of Christine for 53 years, loving father to Quentin, Desiree (Bruce) Treloar, and Abraham (deceased 2023). He delighted in his dear grandchildren Ana, Emma, Lawrence, Amelia, and Ruth, and was Grandpa Jeb to Ariel and Jacob. He is also survived by many loving relatives and friends.

Jeb was born in Boston, Massachusetts in 1951.  He lived in South Carolina as a child where he earned the nickname Jebby.  He moved to Milwaukee in the early 60's, graduated from Nathan Hale High School and began work at Milwaukee Dustless Brush Company for 36 years.  He served as a Union Steward and helped his fellow employees get the benefits and fair treatment they deserved.  He continued his employment as custodian at St. Mary's Hospital for 10 more years and retired in 2013.  He was part of a program there for developmentally disabled teens who would shadow him in his work.  He served as a tank driver in the US Army in Germany guarding the east-west border, 1971-1973.  He was an avid reader, often reading two or more novels a week.  In his younger years he enjoyed camping, fishing and hiking.

Jeb's battle with cancer began in September 2023.  He fought until the end taking every treatment he could to stay alive for his family.  His last wish was to die at home.  We are so grateful for the support of our family, neighbors and friends, our church, the staff of Clement J. Zablocki Veterans Hospital, and Brett Funeral Home.  We love you all.

A memorial service will be held at Redeemer Lutheran Church, 631 N 19th Street, Milwaukee (corner of 19th and Wisconsin) on December 19th at 1:00 pm.  Welcome and greetings at 12:30 pm. Memorial gifts can be given to Redeemer's Forward in Faith Campaign (redeemermilwaukee.org).
