Obituary

Judith Lamm Beall, 79, passed away peacefully on January 25, 2025, in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.
Born on November 26, 1945, in Recife, Pernambuco, Brazil, Judith was the daughter of Donald and
Frederica Lamm (nee Billard). She was preceded in death by her older brother, Peter Lamm, and is
survived by her younger sister, Susan Soland. A diplomat's daughter, Judith spent most of her childhood
in East and West Africa and Australia, before settling in the United States in 1964. While raising five
children, she returned to school and earned BA, MA, and PhD degrees in History at the University of
California, Berkeley. She became a celebrated teacher at Elon College in North Carolina and the
University of Wisconsin, Milwaukee, from which she retired as the Director of the Religious Studies
Program.
While teaching was her vocation, Judith was also a consummate homemaker, an excellent cook, and a
tasteful decorator. She gave informal spiritual and personal guidance to many people of all ages.
She is survived by her second husband, Stephen Beall, first husband, Thomas Thomsen, daughters Sarah
Thomsen and Elizabeth Clearman, sons Robert, Thomas, and Christopher Thomsen, thirteen
grandchildren and step-grandchildren, and numerous godchildren.
Through the memories we shared, the lessons she passed on, and the love she gave so freely, her legacy
will continue to shape us for years to come.
A memorial Mass will be celebrated at a later date.  Instead of sending flowers, consider making a
donation in Judith's name to https://malihealth.org or the charity of your choice
