Obituary

Justine Leonard, age 91, of Shorewood, WI, exited for the big show in the sky on February 2, 2023.  In her usual understated style, she left quietly; she always knew that she could make a difference without being center stage.

A graduate of the Marquette University College of Communications (formerly College of Journalism), Justine had a long career in communications, a field that she loved; she said that it was as close as she could get to show business.  Whether it was talking, singing, walking or dancing, on stage or on screen, Justine was a true show biz junkie.

Working behind the scenes in communications, Justine was recognized as the best second banana in town.  She spent a major part of her career at Fromstein Associates, an advertising and public relations firm and finished at US Bank.

Justine loved words, often churning them out as an uncredited ghost writer for business and non-profit leaders and other folks.  She wrote for the Skylight Music Theater, the Shorewood Senior Resource Center, Interfaith, and many other suburban publications.

Justine was known for her large wind-up toy collection that she displayed at Halloween and Christmas.  She was also famous for the Academy Award parties that she threw with Judy Smith; she claimed that they were the hottest ticket in town.

Most of all, Justine will be remembered as a loving, supportive, kind, and generous aunt and a beloved friend and mentor.

Justine leaves her dearly loved nieces and nephews, Kitty Finn (Mark Arvin), John Leonard, Bridget Purdome (Mark), Michael Leonard (Monica Sullivan), great-nieces and nephews Molly, Matthew, Ryan, and Julia Leonard, Ciaran and Megan Purdome, and John Jr. and Claire Leonard, and the very best friend anyone could ever have, Judy Smith.  Justine was preceded in death by her parents John and Adeline and her brother John and sister-in-law Katie.

Visitation will be held Friday, March 3 rd at 9:00 a.m. until the time of the funeral Mass at 10:00 a.m. at Three Holy Women Parish/St. Hedwig's Church, 1702 N Humboldt Ave., Milwaukee, WI 53202.  Interment will be private.  In lieu of flowers, please remember Justine with a donation to the Hunger Task Force, 5000 W. Electric Avenue, West Milwaukee, WI 53219 or Sojourner Truth House, 619 W. Walnut Street, Milwaukee, WI 53212.  After February 26, see CelebratingJustine.com for a photo journey of her life.
