Kathryn Du
Vergey
Nov 21, 1941 — Feb 26, 2025
Kathryn Anne du Vergey
November 12, 1941 - February 26th, 2025
Kathryn Anne du Vergey, beloved sister, mother to 8 children, Nana to 9 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren, passed away peacefully in Wauwatosa, Wisconsin, on February 26th, 2025, leaving a void her friends, family, and loved ones will never be able to fill.
Kathryn was born in Milwaukee in 1941 to Leona and Donald Gresbach, who instilled a strong sense of morals and work ethic into her. She enjoyed a wonderful childhood with her parents and siblings, Donald and Janie. She often shared fond childhood memories with her loved ones, as well as a few humorous ones. Kathryn attended Mount Mary College before starting her career at First Star Bank, where she quickly rose to a supervisory position. Kathryn worked full time for the bank for over 35 years while raising her 8 children and being the neighborhood Mom. Mr. and Mrs. du Vergey's house became home to many because they always had an open-door policy. Their generosity and love truly knew no limits.
Kathryn also took great pride in being the President of the local USO throughout the 1960's. She loved to dance and to be the center of attention. She was a vibrant, beautiful, intelligent, driven woman who turned heads everywhere she went. It was at a USO event where she met the love of her life, Robert du Vergey Jr., on her 18th birthday. From that point on they became inseparable.
Kathryn was a passionate and loving mother to Lisa, Robert, Mark, Matthew, Paul, Kathryn, David, and Laura, her pride and joy. She always said her children's births changed her life for the better, and they felt that in the love and support she continuously provided. There was nothing she would not do for her children. with Kathryn, if there was a will, there was a way! Laura always made a joke about saving the best for last, as she over time became her mother's caregiver. Kathryn would always laugh and respond with, "Laura Lee Amen!"
Kathryn took special joy in becoming a Nana. She loved her grandchildren as equally as she did her own. She often had them sit in her lap while she would read to them, or they would read to her when they became old enough. She was an avid reader with an extensive book collection. She was a huge history buff, and thoroughly enjoyed conversations and debates about history.
Kathryn had a naturally nurturing spirit, which many of her children's childhood friends could attest to. She was a second Mother to countless others and always accepted them with open arms. Kathryn had developed a great friendship with her children's pediatrician, the late Dr. Pryer. Dr. Pryer oversaw all 8 of her children's healthcare and often times found himself baffled by how Kathryn was able to do everything she did. He often affectionately used one word to describe her: unbelievable. Unbelievable she truly was, and for that, she will be dearly missed and never forgotten.
Kathryn was preceded in death by her parents, Leona and Donald Gresbach; brother Donald Gresbach Jr.; husband Robert du Vergey Jr.; children Lisa du Vergey, Paul du Vergey; and granddaughter Saliyah du Vergey. She is survived by her children Robert du Vergey III, Mark du Vergey, Matthew du Vergey, Kathryn du Vergey, David du Vergey, Laura du Vergey, grandchildren Hailee Payne, Julia Thiele-du Vergey, Samantha du Vergey, Jacob du Vergey, Christopher du Vergey, Sadie du Vergey, and Imara du Vergey.
