Obituary

Margarito Hernandez (Lopez), age 89, passed away on Saturday December 8, 2018 in Milwaukee, WI surrounded by his loving family. He was born on June 1, 1929 in Leon, Guanajuato, Mexico to Tomasa Lopez and Dionicio Hernandez, one of 14 children. At the tender age of 11, Margarito left his hometown in search of work and wealth. He faced many challenges, but was able to overcome them with pure determination and strength. A hardworking man indeed, he held many occupations, including shoe designer, carpenter, migrant worker, and entrepreneur. He was truly resilient and the epitome of the American Dream narrative. Margarito married Margarita Meza (Hernandez) on February 21, 1955. They were married for 63 years and had 8 children. Margarito was a loving husband and extremely family orientated. He would do anything for his "familia" and was a true family patriarch. Margarito is survived by his wife Margarita; his children Javier (Cindy), Ana (Mike), Ismael, Blanca (Bill), Rosalinda (Jorge), Maru (Pedro), Gloria (Javier), Letisia (Javier); 24 grandchildren; and 16 great grandchildren. Margarito loved his family, music, playing cards, and the Milwaukee Brewers. His bold personality, unique sense of style, leadership, and loving heart truly will be missed, but his legacy will live on forever in our hearts. The Hernandez family would like to extend our gratitude to Dr. M. Waples, Dr. P. Leonovicz, Dr. R. Qamar, Dr. D. Nordin, and to the staff at Aurora Zilber Hospice who assisted in the care of Margarito during his final days.
