We celebrate the life of our loving mother and grandmother, Mary Joan Niemiec, age 83, of Oconomowoc passed away Friday, June 23, 2023. She was born on May 7, 1940 in Joliet, Illinois. She was called to her heavenly home to be with her beloved husband Carl Niemiec Sr. who passed away 5 years ago. Together they welcomed into this world 5 children- Carl (JoAnn), Cathy (Todd) Vance, Sherry (Kevin) Powell, John (Lynn), Chris (Kristin). The joys of her life were her 12 grandchildren: Kimberly (Chris) Hamilton and Lauren Niemiec, Rebecca (Darrel) Lijewski and Mitchell Vance, Natalie (Matt) Simon and Trent Powell, Anthony (Kaywin) and Jeremy Niemiec, and Andrew, Brandon, Carson and David Niemiec. Another joy in her life were her 3 great grandchildren: Caden Lijewski and Malachi & Diana Simon.  Mary Joan will be missed by her siblings and many dear friends.

Mary Joan graduated high school from St Mary's in Des Plaines IL. She received her undergraduate degree from Marquette University. Mary Joan's greatest joy was being a mom.  Her "side" jobs of working with her husband, as well as at other doctor's offices were very fulfilling. Mary Joan has always been active in her church from being on church counsel, to running the food tent at the parish festival, to being president of Alter Society.

Mary Joan and Carl were inseparable and truly enjoyed life together. She was a devoted mother who loved camping, cooking large Italian meals, gathering with family and friends, reading and Marquette basketball games (where her & Carl were recognized as fans of the game). Some of her favorite times were spent with her grandchildren & watching their sporting events. Her legacy will live on in the hearts, minds, and lives of everyone she interacted with.

She is preceded in death by her husband Carl, her parents Anthony and Joan Clesceri and in-laws Albert and Cecilia Niemiec, sister-in-law Lenore Clesceri, and her infant brother.

The family welcomes you to help celebrate Mary Joan's life on Thursday, August 24, 2023 at 3:00 with a service at 5:00 p.m. at Our Savior's Lutheran Church, 1044 S. Silverbrook Dr., West Bend, WI. The family would like for you to join them for an Italian dinner in the church fellowship hall after the service. A private burial for family will take place on a later date.

The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to the nurses, aides, and volunteers at Kathy Hospice (under Horizon Inc). Their kind and caring ways provided much comfort to both Mary Joan and her family.  In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Mary Joan's name to Kathy Hospice.
